intended to push US President Barack Obama to commute Jonathan Pollard's
sentence.

Likud MK Danny Danon will speak at a prayer rally set for June 4
intended to push US President Barack Obama to commute the sentence of
imprisoned Israeli agent Jonathan Pollard, now in his 27th year of incarceration for a conviction on one count of passing classified information to an ally - Israel.
The rally is to be held at 8:00 p.m. At the Young Israel of Jamaica Estates in Queens, NY.


In addition to Danon's address, organizers said, Cantor Netanel Herstik and the Hampton Synagogue Choir will lead the services of the special event.


A statement written by prestigious Harvard Law School Professor Alan
M. Dershowitz is also to be read at the rally, calling Pollard's
sentencing “a travesty from the start.”
Dershowitz contends in his statement, which was released to Arutz Sheva
prior to the event, that the life sentence Pollard received was 'based
on a violation of the plea bargain by the prosecutor who had pledged not
to seek a life sentence and then sought one by submitting a perjured
affidavit by the virulently anti-Israel Secretary of Defense, Casper
Weinberger.
"No person who has ever pleaded guilty to spying for an ally of the
United States has ever received a sentence even close to the unjust one
imposed on Jonathan Pollard,” Dershowitz notes.
"President Bill Clinton wanted very much to commute the sentence to
time served but he felt that it was impossible for him to do so in light
of the letter sent to him by several Jewish senators – some of whom
have been heroes to the Jewish community – urging him not to do so.”
Most of the aforementioned senators, Dershowitz added, have since changed their mind and are now seeking commutation, as are former leaders of the intelligence community.


"President Obama, as a constitutional lawyer, should understand that
the sentence in this case is both legally and morally unacceptable,”
Dershowitz points out.
"He should immediately commute the sentence to time served and allow Jonathan Pollard to live out the remaining years of his life in Israel.”
