WWII Vet Upsets Treehuggers And Is Jailed for Shooting Tree Rats
A Long Island World War II vet has been sentenced to 30 days for shooting a squirrel in his yard.
William Thomas. 81, of East Northport was convicted of cruelty to animals in February after a neighbor complained that he was killing animals with a BB gun in the back yard of his Confederate-flag-festooned home.
Yesterday was his first full day behind bars, and Thomas, who suffers from dementia and various medical ailments, was hospitalized for observation, his ex-wife told The Post.
"He's 81 years old," said the ex, Elizabeth Thomas. "I think they should have looked at his condition more closely before they sent him to jail."

They're still mammals , and you cant pop 'em . You're not even supposed to pop rats . A solo male gets a pass , but a female gets it immediately in my garden . They're the main reason for the lack of small birds in this country .

Its legal to shoot any vermin in the UK-rats,rabbits,magpies,grey squirrels etc,check it out. If using an air gun in your own garden,no problem as long as the pellet doesnt cross your boundary.

Grey squirrels in Britain used to have a "bounty" on them, you got paid for the amount of tails you got off the dead ones.
The grey's can carry squirrel pox which doesn't bother them but it kills our red squirrels because they've not immune to it.
