Mercedes SLS AMG - In Tunel

A great video of the 571hp Mercedes SLS AMG managing to run upside down in a tunnel, proving the Germans do have a sense of humor!

    • @xiam - A F1 car produces 1:1 weight to downforce ratio at 80 mph. This means it can theoretically cling upside down at that speed, but without much traction. At about 120 mph the ratio becomes 2:1 which means the force on the wheels will be equal to weight of a stationary car and there will be enough traction (provided the fuel supply etc. is made to function upside down). The ideal environment to do that would be in a perfectly cylindrical tunnel. (We don't think that the tunnel in the Mercede More..

    • @cajunmojo If you look carefully there were ramps to smooth it out, but I agree that it is unlikely to have enough down force especially because of how much the SLS AMG weighs. Then again, if you have enough momentum you might just pull it off.

    • @cajunmojo While that looked like cgi and I don't think they really did it, those calculations are off. With ramps they used to make the path up the walls and across the ceiling curved, they wouldn't have to worry about downforce or the fuel system working upside down. They pulled off the equivalent of a barrel roll.

The effect I'm talking about starts at 2:11.

    • @EmrysM - Totally agree , not impossible. And if I where going to try such a test , the SLS AMG would be my car of choice.

  • It 'LOOKS' real but I seriously doubt it. For one, they put equipment, lights and even CREW on the roadway! If the driver had failed in any miniscule portion of this run, he would have fallen or at the very least, gone out of control and hit people or equipment and then REALLY caused some damage. The film company's insurance carrier would never in a million years have let film crew stand in the way of the car, even off to one side. If this is a real stunt, these 'stunt' people were utter idi More..
