@alex1212 I would not call the A321-200 small... It is a medium size jet, seats around 180, and is capable of 5-6 hour flights.

How do you not just completely lose your shit when the plane is on fire like that? In Canada some guy would strip naked and run up and down the isles screaming "WE 'GUN DIE!!" until we landed. Or.. maybe that's just what I'd do.

I'm sure this was terrifying for the passengers. But the truth is, engine fires happen from time to time, they are semi-routine, and the well trained crews at Turkish (and any other major airline) know exactly how to handle them.

@maxthetax Sure, well it is largely a matter of definition. To simplify it, there's three types of engine failures that could occur. An "in-flight shutdown" occurs because the gauges/computers in the cockpit indicate that an engine is not running properly (low oil pressure, high temp, whatever), so pilots will shut it down and divert on one engine. Mostly precautionary. On average, a pilot might experience 2-3 of these in his career. Nationwide these happen every week.
