JUPITER — He told police he was standing in the bakery line at Publix, just waiting for a sample of bread.
But after Jupiter police spoke with others, they arrested 33-year-old Steven Weiner, saying he not only threw bread in a woman's face, but punched her already broken arm.
Weiner, of Palm Beach Gardens, was charged Sunday with aggravated battery on a person 65 years of age or older.
He is currently being held at Palm Beach County Jail on $10,000 bond.
When police responded to the Publix, on Military Trail, Sunday, Weiner said he was standing behind a woman waiting for a sample of bread and the woman yelled at him, calling him an "idiot". He didn't like that, he said, so he threw a piece of bread at her, the police report says.
The woman, who is unidentified in the police report, her friend and a Publix bakery employee told police that Weiner started the fight.
The woman said while in line for a bread sample, Weiner pushed her aside as he tried to reach the bread, coming in contact with her already broken arm that was in a sling, the report says.
The friend stepped in when Weiner looked like he was going to punch her and was punched in the face, after he smacked Weiner in the back of his head.
No one was transported to the hospital, but the victim said she planned on going to her doctor.
