An 81-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder for allegedly beating to death his 94-year-old roommate at a Laguna Hills nursing home, authorities said Saturday.

William McDougall allegedly took a bar used to hang clothes from a closet to repeatedly strike his roommate, Manh Ban Nguyen of Laguna Woods, said Orange County Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino.

He said detectives were still investigating a possible motive for the deadly assault, which took place around 11:20 p.m. Friday at Palm Terrace Healthcare Center, a 99-bed residential facility.

Nguyen, who was found beaten around the head, was pronounced dead at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, Amormino said.
