The maximum security Welikada prison in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo became a battleground on November 10, after an aggressive search for drugs and cell phones by Special Task Force commandos turned into a riot where prisoners overpowered prison guards and seized control of the armory.
During the resulting standoff, six of the prisoners attempted to flee the prison using a Tuk Tuk, only to be cut down by a fusillade of bullets from security forces. 27 prisoners were killed and many more on both sides were injured before the military recaptured the prison on early Saturday.
NOTES: First video shows the Tuk Tuk being shot up as it flees, while the second shows the prisoners brandishing rifles before switching to an alternate view of soldiers opening fire on the vehicle, which was around the corner. Also included are two photos of the Tuk Tuk, one while it was under attack and another of the aftermath.
