A jewelry store owner fought back against a pair of suspected thieves Thursday despite being shocked by a stun gun.
Julian Wise, 80, told Local 10's Janine Stanwood that he knows he could have been killed.
Instead, he has scrapes, cuts and the sting of a Taser doled out by two men who detectives said robbed Wise's Dania Beach jewelry store on Thursday afternoon.
"I think times are getting worse, much worse," Wise said.
According to Wise, two men entered his store, B&J Trading Antiques at 27 North Federal Highway, just before 12:30 p.m.
"They said they were looking for gold earrings," Wise said.
Surveillance video captured the two men casually walking inside the store.
Wise said they seemed like nice customers.
But video shows one man pulling what police said was a Taser out of his pocket.
Wise said he had no idea what was about to happen.
"I bent over to show jewelry to them and they Tasered me like a son-of-a-gun. One Taser after another," he said.
The video shows Wise falling to the ground. But he kept fighting, trying to defend himself with his own gun until one of the attackers yanked it out of his hands.
"I fought like a madman because he was a big, heavyset guy. And I figured, 'what have I got to lose?'" he said.
The two men are then seen scooping up gold from trays.
"They kept on saying, 'Where's the money? Where's the money?'" Wise said.
Wise said he opened up the safe. The men then pushed him into the bathroom so he wouldn't see them get away.
Wise said this was the second time he's been robbed for gold this year.
"I'm just kind of lucky. I'm 80 years old and I'm in pretty good shape and I was able to defend myself a little," he said.
Detectives said the pair of robbers made off with cash and jewelry and have not been located.
