"Dimmable" CFL Bulbs

So much for being green...

My local hardware store quit selling incandescent bulbs so I figured I would give these a try. Damn.

  • Just throw them away and buy some news ones. It's all part of the "Big" picture. The more you spend, the more the Greenies can say how good it works.

  • You must use a C.L Dimmer switch with a dimmable CFLs and LEDs bulbs.

  • I just bought 3 cases of incandescent bulbs... One case each of 60, 75 & 100 watt. I'm set for a while before I have to buy those retarded CFL things.

  • As with many of the "alternative" energy items, it's primary function becomes secondary, cost accelerates, and your expectations are either very low or quickly dashed. I actually employ CFLs, solar panels, and even LED lights in particular situations, but they are not replacements for all or even most incandescent uses. But now that we are being forced to use them for all cases, well, enjoy central planning and vote accordingly.

It depends on your environment and what LEDs you are using.

If in a cold climate, replacement of bulbs yields a shift in electricity cost saved to heating costs. Incandescent is 100% efficient in a heated space.

For example replacing with top of the range, properly built leds, incandescent bulb replacement then becomes the only cost factor as the leds will outlast your lifetime.

At 400-2000 hours a pop and a dollar or two, it's cheaper with the high end leds over lifetime.

  • CFLs are a dying technology anyway. LED bulbs are getting cheaper.

  • I love how we're conserving energy by installing green bulbs then purchasing the the circuit boards that are necessary to dim them. The manufacturing processes involved in producing the boards more than offsets the energy reduction while increasing the cost to the consumer by more than 300% for products that are of dubious quality...

  • Fuck. Now my government is telling me what kind of bulbs I can and cannot buy.

When does it become too much?

    • @Meathead12

This morning I heard a radio segment talking about the state of Maryland is making it a felony to smoke in a car with a child under 8 years old. I was flabbergasted that someone thought this was a good law. I'm all for protecting kids but do these people not see what they are doing making laws like this? Who is supposed to be checking on this and how do they intend to enforce it? Are cops going to be looking in everyone's car windows now looking for kids? The lunacy never ends

The most disturbing part is that the paper they're using is our Constitution.

  • Just give me the fucking incandescent bulbs. They produce much "warmer" light

  • In the future, the environmentalists will be crying about all the mecury from cfls poisoning the environment. Bunch of fucktards.

  • Those CFL bulbs are nothing more than devotional candles the Left lights to appease their earth-god.

  • The CFLs might save money in electricity for lighting, but they end up costing more money to heat your home - the incandescent bulbs give off more heat than the cfls.. Not to mention how horrible the cfls are for the environment - do they really think everyone in the world will safely dispose of their toxic lightbulbs? And personally I think the light from incandescents is better. Bring them back!!!

  • Use LED-DC for all your lighting needs....they last and use very little power.

  • The electric light globe was one of the best inventions. And now we have de-evolution of such ideas.
