It is widely believed that the massacre was falsely reported as being due to artillery because that is easier to pin on the Syrian government. If it had been reported accurately as being due to a barbaric shooting and knife rampage inside people's homes, then this would have opened up many questions of who was really responsible. Such tactics bear the hallmark of violent Al-Qaeda cells as seen in districts of Iraq such as Anbar.

The video is significant because most Sunnis, even those who would like to see reform, do not support the violence of the 'Free Syrian Army' and Al-Qaeda in Syria. They are a target of the extremist brigades who are fighting to impose their misinterpreted application of Sharia law on the towns they conquer. However, they have been unable to hold onto the towns in the face of the Syrian army and have resorted to even more hated ruthless tactics, including massacres and suicide bombings.
