Believe it or not this iconic show only ran for 39 episodes between 1955 and 1956. Eventually losing out in the ratings to shows like the Perry Como show. There was an earlier incarnation of The Honeymooners as a sketch on the The DuMont network's Cavalcade of stars variety show from 1951 to 1955.
I think that throughout the years The Honeymooners has actually gotten more popular, making a huge impact on culture. A tribute to the genius of Jackie Gleason, who is in my opinion up there with the best of the best of comedic actors. Unlike all other shows of the time who's characters were portrayed as idyllic, Honeymooners was a gritty portrayal of working class people.
Here is picture of the real 328 Chauncey Street in Brooklyn where the show takes place.

This was actually Jackie Gleason's boyhood home. Growing up in Brooklyn with very humble beginnings. He painstakingly worked to duplicate the interior of the apartment he lived in for the series. As they say in comedy "Go with what you know".

It's very clear where the inspiration for the animation of Ren and Stimpy came from watching that 1955 Dodge commercial. I expected to see their faces pop up at any moment lol.

I remember reading Jackie used to turn up a few minutes before the camera's went live half drunk and he had only scanned the script once and the bugger would still pull it off. Actors these days have a mental break down if the air isn't smelling right.
