I'm here at the DNC and after a long day of listening to protester and counter-protester I'll walk down to 5th and Tryon and watch these officers (there are three of them that work in shifts) do their thing.
And the same protester/counter-protester are their laughing together. Maybe it's true that there is more that binds us than separates us.

I could see how boring & MONOTONOUS the "job" of directing traffic could be. Ain't nothin' wrong with making the time more tolerable by "entertaining" one's self, (and obviously,...the pedestrians)
On a side note, based merely on this cop's "coolness", I'd probably rather be pulled over by HIM, than another of his peers. Probably get off w/ a warning as opposed to a ticket!! Just sayin'.
