Is Swearing illegal?

Minnesota Metro Transit Police accost a woman for filming and threaten to arrest her for "illegally" swearing.

The funny (sad?) thing is that the cops have a case here:

609.72 DISORDERLY CONDUCT.
Whoever does any of the following in a public or private place, [...] (3) engages in offensive, obscene, abusive, boisterous, or noisy conduct or in offensive, obscene, or abusive language tending reasonably to arouse alarm, anger, or resentment in others.

  • Those cops didn't seem like cunts to be honest, however making noises with air from your mouth shouldn't be considered a crime, that's lunacy.

    • @DisturbedChimp Hitler was just making noises from his mouth when he incited genocide. Words aren't just noises they have meanings. I respect what you are saying though.

    • @emmawatsonsloveslave I understand where you're coming from aswell, but one syllable with our vocal cords resonating shouldn't be enough to be put in a cage and have our valuables taken away from us. We're a strange animal. However, you just compared someone saying fuck to someone leading to the deaths of 60 million people if you want to count all of WW2. Lets try use some perspective.

  • its alright for singers, actors and actresses and sports stars to use swear words and set a bad example but not normal, average everyday people.. they arent allowed to set a bad example.

    • @b4z_uk That's different though. Music is rated and you aren't allowed to buy it if you are under a certain age. Swearing in the street, however, gives children no choice but to hear the offensive language.

    • @bazzap If they don't hear it on the bus by their own Mother in $hitcago, they'll hear it on the radio station. They "try" to bleep out the "N" or "F" word but just enough to be legal and make it obvious what they want you to hear at the same time.

The world is based upon indecency, it's just at trick to pretend otherwise.

What are you going to do go punch the person cussing? No, because you'd go to jail.
Be happy that cops will tell these idiots to shut up and stop cussing in front of kids or people just out having a good time.

  • Free speech is the right to voice your opinion without fear of prosecution, not the right to use inappropriate language anytime you want.
We seem to be losing a key ingredient in todays society called Moral fiber.
Swearing does hurt kids,, it gets kids kicked out of school, makes them look like that classless adult that taught them this was ok. People with nothing of value to contribute to the conversation fall back on a recovery plan. Call them names or swear to divert attention. It’s the More..

See this is the point where you lack common sense. This is the internet, if you don't like something you can simply turn it off. This woman was in public, probably yelling at the top of her lungs and it enroaches on EVERYBODIES freedom by having to listen to her slander. It's pretty sad YOU can not differeate the difference betweens somebody cool and calm opinion vs somebody that is flying off of the handle causing a disturbance.

    • @99gt You can leave the area, nobody's holding you.

Common sense or not common sense, the reality is that speech restrictions are always arbitrary, thus cannot be allowed, this is why 1st Amendment exists in the first place.

The Supreme Court ruling outlawing "fighting words" is incorrect and corrupt. But I guess who am I kidding... the US was never a free or democratic country. I mean, the "founding fathers" owned slaves for fuck's sake... US is The Regime just like any ot More..

  • People shouldn't swear.
    That doesn't have anything
to do with freedom of speech.
It has to do with civilized
    behavior and etiquette.
    Always try to be nice.
    Works better...
