Sources in Israel, Strip confirm scheduled transfer of 450,000 liters of diesel fuel necessary for Gaza power plant.
A shipment of 450,000 liters of gasoline and diesel fuel purchased by the Palestinian Authority will be sent into the Gaza Strip through the Kerem Shalom border crossing on Friday, after Israel agreed to permit the transfer.
Over a year ago, Hamas ceased importing fuel from Israel.
Palestinian sources noted that for the first time the Palestinian Authority would pay for the fuel supply, following a decision made by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The fuel infusion would allow the Gaza power plant to operate at full capacity for the first time in over a month.
Nazmi Mhana, director-general of the Palestinian Crossings Authority noted that Israel's Dor Alon will be supplying the diesel fuel.
Mhana stressed that Abbas' decision stemmed from the urgent need to solve power supply problems to vital Gaza institutions, such as hospitals.
Israeli source confirmed that the transfer will take place on Friday, adding that the operation was approved by Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Major-General Eitan Dangot, in view of the dire situation in Gaza.
The PA said there was an urgent need to resolved the issue of diesel fuel supply to the Strip and that all the parties involved, namely the PA, Hamas government in Gaza and Egypt, were working to finalize a solution.
Over the past few years, Hamas' government has been able to facilitate diesel fuel transfers to the Strip through Gaza's smuggling tunnels, but Egypt has put a stop to it in recent months.
Hamas protests in opposition to Egypt's moves are expected to take place today. The temporary, partial solution to the fuel crisis in Gaza follows debates in the Egyptian parliament, with Muslim Brotherhood MPs lobbying the Egyptian government to ship fuel to Gaza. Brotherhood efforts to achieve a fuel shipment deal were met with opposition from other parts of the Egyptian government, remnants of Hosni Mubarak's regime.
The Dor Alon fuel company will transfer the gasoline and diesel fuel.

I'm not that well informed with the current policy of imports/exports with Gaza.
It says above that last year it was Hamas who ceased importing fuel from Israel, and not the other way around..
It also says that Egypt once more blocked smugglling into Gaza strip.
In either case it is quite clear that the people of Gaza are entitled for regular fuel supply, but still this is the only place in the world, in which a state is supplying fuel to a political entity, which holds groups who don't hesit More..

@aydeo Its really not something to be proud of Aydeo...Israel desperately wants to pretend that Gaza isn't its responsibility
However it controls the borders, air and sea space, who and what comes and goes...its a RIGHT of the people of Gaza to have fuel they have bought, and Israel should be allowing all fuel through as a matter of course
The Pal's don't want handouts..they want freedom

If gaza was inside US or even Britian, with radical Islamic groups and thousands of rockets, i'm quite sure that the Gov. were controlling what is getting inside (their) Gaza.
It's hamas who didn't want fuel from Israel till now, so why are you (as usual) blaming Israel for it....? (don't bother - I already know the answer)

" and Israel should be allowing all fuel through" - Israel is actually selling them the fuel, not transforming it (Dor Alon is an Israeli fuel company).
Once again- If you want to point a finger over this one then choose Hamas-they refused and by that got their strip into an energy crisis.
But you will as always point the finger at Israel, like a trained little doggy...
