Long way down was ruined, it was obviously financed by Ewan as he had the say on every decision.

Totally ruined by the fact his spacecake wife had to come along and ride when she was clueless.

  • This sort of thing I'd love to do but, alas, only a lottery win could finance it..

Not true, these guys had backup and lots of parts shipped ahead. BMW was determined they would suceed. Believe it or not such trips do not need a GS or huge budgets. In fact a more simple 600 cc bike will perform better and is easier to repair/service.

What Charlie and Ewan omitt is the fact they took the train across a huge section of Russia as the GS was too heavy for the swamp like terrain.Amazing what editing can do.

Still a good series, however Mondo Enduro will always be More..

    • @Forkhandles Naww, suitable brand new bikes, setup, & gear could be had for less that 20 grand. You could most likely do this trip for about 40 grand if starting from scratch & buying all new. Probably less, but that's a good figure to keep in mind.

  • Great movie adventure & I really enjoyed Boormans "Race To Dakar" which soon followed.
