An officer was investigating a report that three men were checking vehicles in an area on Golf Terrace Drive at about 2:45 a.m. when he noticed Jonathan Jimenez Rodriguez, 24, and Victor Jimenez Rodriguez, 25, who were in a white mini-van. The men sped off and ignored police orders to stop and instead drove directly toward the officer, police said.
The men circled the apartment complex at high speeds, avoiding and ignoring the officer who had since gotten into his department vehicle and turned on his lights and sirens, police said. The officer chased the men down State Road 434 and onto U.S. Highway 17-92, police said. The men in the mini-van continued to drive at speeds of 80-90 mph and drove south in northbound lanes, according to police.
The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office took control, and the chase continued into Orlando before the vehicle was stopped by authorities. The men fled from the van, and a K-9 unit was needed to track Jonathan Jimenez Rodriguez, the van’s driver, in the corner of property on San Paulo Street, where he resisted arrest, according to police.
He was also bitten by a police dog, police said. He was wearing black gloves and possessed tools that could be used to commit vehicle burglary, police said.
He was also charged with loitering and prowling, according to police. Jonathan Jimenez Rodriguez was taken to Florida Hospital South to be cleared for his dog bite, authorities said.
The white Plymouth van Jonathan Jimenez Rodriguez was driving was stolen out of Orange County, police said. Police did not say whether he or the men with him stole the van. According to police, Jonathan Jimenez Rodriguez’s driver’s license had ban habitually revoked in November 2010.
Victor Jimenez Rodriguez, the van’s passenger, was struck by a Seminole County deputy’s vehicle after he fled the mini-van. After he was apprehended, he was found with a bag filled with tools that could be used to commit a vehicle burglary, police said. He was also taken to Florida Hospital South for injuries to his legs.
Officers also arrested Jonathan Colon, who was booked into the Orange County Jail.
