HUDSON BAY, Sask. - RCMP are releasing more details about a fatal
hunting accident last week in which a 63-year-old man from Prince
Albert, Sask., shot and killed his 36-year-old son. Hudson Bay RCMP officer Darren Simons says it appears the father mistook his son for a bear.
Simons says the pair had hunted before and had been in the woods for several days.
He
says they briefly lost communication with each other and became
separated, and when the father saw a movement he thought it was a bear
and fired. Simons says the father had a high-quality hunting
scope and the son was wearing bright orange clothing, but thick trees
and bush and the fact it was dusk made it hard to see. Simons
says the father didn't realize what he'd done at first and was
traumatized by the shooting, as were RCMP members and EMS staff. RCMP are calling it a tragic accident and say charges are not anticipated.

Hunting accident

Firing without identifying your target isn't an accident, it's negligence.

Fucking moron you don't shoot into thick trees and bush. This asshole took a shot when he couldn't even see clearly enough to see a hunting vest.
He should be charge with manslaughter.

Tragic but stupid at the same time.
Sometimes you get the bear but sometimes you get your own son.

Very sad but the father ignored basic gun safety. I was always told never, ever pull the trigger unless you are 100% certain where the shot is going to finally land.

@spellingpolice Would be nice if police kept that in mind when they take 90 shots at some guy - especially when there are innocent people standing all around
Like the case where the cops shot the guy on the street in NYC about 2 months ago - and the richochets hit about 10 people (all cop bullets)

@Motorkross I hear they have a two for the price of one eyeglasses special, and the Father definitely needs to update his prescription.

The moral of the story is, don't dress up in bear costumes and go hunting. It's just not safe...

So he sees movement in thick brush and assumes it's a bear? I would have assumed it was Bigfoot and gotten the fuck out of there.
