'US strategy failing in Afghanistan'

Afghanistan, 28 October 2009 (guardian.co.uk) -- Sean Smith spent a month embedded with The US Army's 501st Parachute Regiment in June this year. With inadequate vehicles, relations with Afghan security forces at a standstill and the constant threat of IEDs, the soldiers are losing heart for a fight they feel their presence is only prolonging.

  • The good thing about this type of article is that to have an opinion one way or the other, you first have to admit that american savages actually had a strategy when they started slaughtering people in the countries they invade. Even people thinking the plans failed is way better than the truth.

  • 'The Guardian'

Biggest left-wing paper in the UK. So it wont be biased at all.

  • "....the soldiers are losing heart... " Hmmmm. Why would that be exactly? Is it possible it could be from the lack of decisiveness and lack of commitment from the oval office? Food for thought.

it's probably from 'lack of an end goal'

patrolling for snipers and IEDs must get old after awhile

neoconservatism justifies another 10 to 20 years of occupation, though -- even an endless one

  • Old news... this was before we went on the offensive. They all say that we have the watch but they have the time. I beg to differ! The amount of troops and police being trained is growing at a bigger rate each year. and the coalition are being put under more pressure each year. The coalition will have a sash out before they leave. That could rock the Taliban massively and hopefully it would.

I think you nailed it and its not US military strategy failing, rather it's the indecisive, procrastination and disgusting political juggling by the Obama administration that is failing our troops.

If you risk your life and cheat death during the day clearing an area then return to your base at night giving back the ground your friends just bled on, that might get old after a few times.

  • Josh Stony, In your little world, were those DEA agents hanging out of the side of helicopters shooting at the bad guys with their 9mms all blazing. Or did they come across something that they weren't supposed to see and had to silenced. Let me guess.

  • i prefer to think they fail themselves. in the end, you hate the ones who free you from your own greedy ass bullshit. maybe they don't want our intrusion, sure, but why?
freedom, yeah right. freedom from being expected to pay for your crimes. africa, you're next. notice where islam prevails, people's rights are next to none. and yeah, i know there are alot of innocents, but sometimes you gotta break a few eggs to make yourself a mutha****in' omelette...
