Stephen Hawking looses $100 bet on breakthrough of the Higgs boson particle
UPDATE: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=34a_1221149029The master of science, Stephen Hawking confirms findings of the higgs boson particle.
his smile at the end is worth it, this guy has lived for science and this discovery has made his day i'd think, thanks to him so many things are now possible.

Not only a genius but a man who can still have a sense of humor in spite of his horrendous battle with his body.

This guy is a hero. Not just because of his motivation in physics, but because he's alive when his disease should have killed him a long time ago.

True scientists love being proven wrong just as much as they love being proven right. That's the nature and beauty of the scientific process, any result is a good result.

i hate how people who dont understand particle physics act like it's just a bunch of useless garbage. if you doubt it's importance or dont understand it, READ A FUCKING BOOK. dont be like the religious assholes who claim it's bullshit just because nobody wants to sit you're ignorant ass down and give you a crash course on physics.

It's unbelievable what this guy has accomplished throughout his life. The fact that he's still alive even with ALS is just amazing. He's got what I could only describe as incredible mind over matter.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yixhyPN0r3g. I believe we will benefit more from the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Lab
They are in the 11th hour of creating a man made star with 192 lasers pointed at one target....if it works, we will have unlimited clean energy.
Please watch the video...its facinating and educational.

@barbarossa Berty and Barb, the USA national labs working on NIF such as LLNL and Oak Ridge are inpenitrable by the media, mafia, or big oil...they are also non profit.
Another benefit of ignition and its light, will be plastics that could replace steel.
The labs rely on government funding...politicians live for the day that the labs claim success.

@DirtyUncleBerty if i really need to say how his research has helped man kind in science, how things work and how his extensive research has helped other people with other ideas and inventions then i can't really be bothered to win this debate

@Daivodabest Well said. For instance, few IU students are aware that there is a massive underground cyclotron under the football field in Bloominton, Indiana...it is part of the work done in this field at the National Labs...when a patient with macular degenaration goes to the IU med center, the beam that zaps the defect in the back of their eye, is powered by the underground cyclotron complex....yet you would never know it as a patient.

@cougar58 The cyclotron at IU, when not working on Nat Lab projects like recreating the big bang, also perfected laptops for use in outer space from radiation bombardment.
