Dajuan Emerson, 31, of Cleveland: Murder trial begins Monday. Prosecutors say Emerson, on July 4, 2007, fatally stabbed and slashed Marnie Macon, 37, of Cleveland, in her home in the 7300 block of Elton Avenue. She died with 74 wounds. Emerson is also accused of wiping a household cleaner on the body to destroy evidence of having sex with her. Prosecutors say they have DNA evidence against Emerson.
Jerry Valentine Jr., 38, of Cleveland: Sentencing Monday by Judge Richard McMonagle for driving a stolen truck May 8 into the Star Value Store at 10606 Bellaire Avenue and taking the cash register, wine and an automated teller machine. He pointed a gun at a witness before he left. Police found him in the truck and he ran off near Denison Avenue and West 46th Street. He was caught in Brookside Park. Emerson pleaded guilty to breaking and entering, robbery, vandalism and receiving a stolen vehicle.
Channel Martin, 31, of Cleveland: Sentencing Monday by Judge Michael Donnelly to up to 10 years in prison for fatally shooting Mack Flucker, 37, on May 16 at their house in the 4200 block East 136th Street. The couple had argued and she locked him out of the house. He crawled through a window and came looking for her. She grabbed a gun and shot him three times. Martin pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
James Bright, 71, of North Royalton: Sentencing Tuesday by Judge Kathleen Ann Sutula for bribery and theft. Bright is the eighth of nine men to be sentenced in an Ohio Department of Transportation corruption case for the steering of ODOT business to friends from 2000 to 2007.
Demonte Merriweather, 22, of Cleveland: Murder trial begins Tuesday. Prosecutors say he fatally shot Dontez Thomas and Curtis Ogletree and shot and wounded Lloyd Azeen Aug. 3, 2008, in the 2600 block of Division Avenue.
Jaquise Lofton, 17, of Maple Heights: Murder trial begins Tuesday. Prosecutors say he robbed and fatally shot gas station attendant Michael Martin Dec. 6 at a Maple Heights station.
Aretha Swanigan, 39, and Lafeal Swanigan, 20, of Cleveland: Sentencing Tuesday by Judge Michael Donnelly for living in public housing they weren't entitled to and possession of marijuana, a stolen gun, digital scales and more than $5,000 at the apartment in the 3200 block of East 57th Street. The mother and son and her husband, Preston Sales, 41, were arrested June 5 after receiving $47,503 in federal housing subsidies. Aretha Swanigan pleaded guilty to drug trafficking, possessing criminal tools and receiving stolen property. Lafeal Swanigan pleaded guilty to trafficking and possessing criminal tools. Sales is due in court Oct. 29.
Avhinav Rajagopal, 26, of Brunswick: Sentencing Tuesday by Judge Ronald Suster for sharing child pornography on the Internet from March 2008 to August 2008. He pleaded guilty to seven counts of pandering sexually-oriented material involving a minor and possessing criminal tools, his computer. He will be labeled a sexual offender who has to register his home and work addresses every 180 days for 25 years.
Leonard King, 22, of Cleveland, and Brandon Siggers, 19, of Shaker Heights: Trial begins Wednesday on aggravated robbery charges. Prosecutors say they robbed four people at gunpoint in two hours May 22 in the West 90th Street -- Bridge Avenue area. The victims were a 57-year-old woman heading to work, a 45-year-old woman jogger, a 47-year-old man riding his bike and a 30-year-old man loading items into his car. They each face 18 counts of aggravated robbery, felonious assault, gross sexual imposition, kidnapping and aggravated burglary.
Deshawn Walker, 18, and Deonte Smith, 20, both of Cleveland: Murder trial begins Wednesday. Prosecutors say they fatally shot 21-year-old Darrell Gray June 22 during an argument in the 4300 block of Warner Road.
Michael Coleman, 18, and Marcus Cammon, 19, both of Cleveland: Murder trial begins Wednesday. Prosecutors say they killed 18-year-old Joy Cranfield Sept. 4, 2008, when they were shooting at each other at Carver Park Estates in the 4300 block of Quincy Avenue. Cranfield, a bystander, was shot twice.
David Trotter, 42, of Parma: Trial begins Wednesday on charges of rape, kidnapping, using a minor in nude material, pandering sexually-oriented material involving a minor, possessing criminal tools and corrupting another with drugs. Prosecutors say he raped a 14-year-old girl at his home after giving her alcohol and had child pornography on his computer.
Samuel Robinson, 39, of Grafton: Trial begins Wednesday on charges of rape, aggravated burglary, kidnapping and child endangering. Prosecutors say the already-convicted rapist's DNA matches evidence in a Nov. 2, 1994 rape, when the suspect kicked in a door at a West Side home and raped an 18-year-old woman. He raped 21-year-old woman March 2, 2007, when he pointed a gun at a woman in her car at a red light at East 105th Street and Superior Avenue. He forced her to drive to his house and raped her.
Isaiah Edmondson, 19, of Euclid: Trial begins Wednesday on felonious assault, discharge of a gun near a building, improperly handling a gun in a vehicle, possessing criminal tools and having a gun after a felony conviction. Prosecutors say he drove by a house in the 1500 block of East 193rd Street in Euclid Nov 1 and fired a 9-mm gun at it.
Rodney Callender, 45, of Cleveland: Sentencing Thursday by Judge Jose Villanueva to up to 16 years in prison for using the Internet to solicit sex 10 times from an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old girl between January 29 and March 8. He was to meet the girl in Maryland, but didn't go. Police searched his home computer in April. He pleaded guilty to importuning and possessing criminal tools. Callender was convicted in 1992 of similar activity in Michigan.

If the dumb judge had done his job three years ago and sent Dajuan Emerson to prison for the rape of a 7-year-old girl then this wouldn't have happened.
