  • I love everyones comments about how it flys like shit, handles awful, kills people left and right, without ever sitting in one. There is no propaganda, no one forcing the Marines to use this thing. If it didn't work or had no use in the military, the Corps wouldn't use it.

  • The V-22 Osprey is very old, but is such and amazing bird, that even now looks like a 21st century design!

    Pretty cool video DEMON!!

    • @Americanalltheway I've heard they offer very little transport-capability compared to it's size, but ofcorse, I've never flown in one myself, just heard it from a U.S. Marine I knew. What do you think?

Such a shame they cancelled the BAE belly gun. Actually seemed promising.

  • Awesome aircraft no doubt. I've always felt that this is the direction troop transport should go, but I'm not so sure the Osprey is the best design yet. I'm thinking version 2 will be much faster and safer.

  • full screen HD is superb. As someone else said, a great piece of kit.

I saw two of these flying low over north London of all places, I guessed they were going to RAF Hendon. I ran for the camera but it was too late, I left the camera nearby just in case .. within a couple of hours sure enough I heard them this time coming the other way, I raced off three shots which came out OK. The old LL v1 allowed pic uploads but no more unfortunately. Found out later they had been visiting RAF Hendon.

  • Looks like Lejeune... or New River.
Anyway-the V-22 has turned out to be more reliable in combat conditions than expected. The main problem is the cost per unit. You could buy many more less capable birds with the same money. And frankly... that's what the Corps needs.

I can't help thinking these look like the dropship in the movie Aliens. ;) "Let's dust off and nuke em from orbit... it's the only way to be sure."

    • @cirvine11 What would you suggest the Corps put their money into? Upgrading frogs?

    • @Austin Allen Newell Gents-both Austin and flymarine-the problem is, the Corps needs more lift capacity. The per-unit cost means fewer fastmovers in the fleet... and that means longer deploy time. Most missions are well under the specs of the V-22. It's like having a sports car when you need a pickup. Don't get me wrong-this is an awesome aircraft. But I'm not sure it is THE aircraft the Corps need. BTW-gents-Semper Fidelis. ;)

I'd rather chain saw down burning trees while naked and blindfolded.

    • @Hymen-Hammer it's about speed and distance, the Osprey can go faster and farther than a Chinook

    • @Hymen-Hammer

Chinook is more of a heavy lift short range helicopter. The Osprey is long range vertical takeoff and landing VTOL. Its basically only for marines to get things into the same type of areas you could get into with helicopters. Except much quicker and further away than with traditional helicopters. Many militaries have been trying to make this aircraft for a while now. It almost got canceled in the US due to it taking too long to make, has to be flown with a computer, over budget a More..

  • Amazing birds, the first time I saw them was on my last deployment to Iraq. Is a pitty that I did not have the chance to fly in one.
