WELD COUNTY
A vintage plane crashed near Weld County Road 1 and Highway 52 this morning.
A Weld County Sheriff's Office spokesperson tells 9NEWS the plane clipped the top of some nearby trees before crashing and then hitting a power line. She says two people got out of the plane before it caught fire.
Stanley Peterson, 64 of Boulder, and David Gianakos, 52 of Littleton, were taken to a Longmont hospital. One suffered a back injury and both suffered head injuries but they are said to not be life threatening.
The plane is a vintage Beechcraft C-45 and was being housed at Platte Valley Airfield.
The two had gone for leisurely ride when suspected engine problems forced the pilot to try and set the plane down in a field, according to the spokesperson.
