Man films himself while cops detain him for "suspicion of terrorist activity"

Police in Kentucky detained a man for "suspicion of terrorist activity" after he supposedly video recorded a police station.
He never admitted to video recording the building but he did record the encounter with two cops.
Not that it really matters because video recording the police department from public is not a crime.
But the man who goes by Zack Skull on Youtube was telling the cops that he was only reading his emails on his iPhone when they approached him, which is why he was holding the phone close to his face.
They then spent the next few minutes debating whether or not he was telling the truth about that, which is a pointless argument considering there is no crime in doing either.
The incident took place June 14, 2012 in Hopkinsville, which has a population of just over 31,000.
One of the cops brought up 9/11 for the detainment, which is guaranteed to produce an eye roll or two - 11 August

  • So let me get this straight.

    1. It's now ILLEGAL to take photos of a public building.
    2. It's Illegal to hold your cell phone too close to your face.

    3. You are a suspected terrorist if you do any of the above.

Amerika is FUKED. Welcome to NAZI RULE.

    • @DrDietmarPosselt Sad but true. Videotaping or filming a state, federal, or utility building is grounds for a visit from the law. I used to work security for a couple facilities in New England, order of the day was, if they have a camera and they point it at this place, have the police stop them, or stop them yourself. Ludicrous.

    • @DrDietmarPosselt
It makes you stick out with enough suspicion that the cops are going to want to question you. They didn't book him as a terrorist. But he was looking for trouble to get on his camera.

  • Sorry but the guy with a camera is a dick.

E21: So why was he filming the police or police station? It's a reasonable question.

He's just a smartass who asked to be harassed and then complained about it.

    • @fortuzero It is the tax payers property, we as owners can take a fucking photo of a city, county, state, or federal police station if we want. It is our right to do so. the police are doing it every day, around every corner, do they ask? NO. They have to be checked every once and a wile. imagine this was you and you were not going there to prove a point, just to take a photo or out on the street minding your own business with a camera, what is it that you are doing wrong? then a cop walks up an More..

  • As noted elsewhere,

9/11 was over ten years ago.

If the Police routinely stop people who are doing something that was not illegal prior to 9/11 (and is still not illegal) then the terrorists have won - just like they have won in your airports and bus-terminals.

    • @DEADBEEF

Osama bin Laden just wanted the American people to stop being apathetic and wake up to what their government was doing to the rest of the world.

He didn't win anything, neither did the American people, the winner was the American government (patriot act etc passing).

thats true but the cops have their motive and they where asking nicely for his I.D. the "military" cop said what the suspect asked witch was to say he is being detained so he did now the suspect wants to make a show about it and blab his mouth...

i dont like cops much but they did asked nicely for his i.d. for a motive of paranoia. nothing out of the ordinary for good ole u s of a.

  • Cops really shouldn't be getting into arguments with anyone over what happened or what the law says. Follow procedure. Make the arrest if there is a basis. Otherwise, cut the guy loose or don't stop him in the first place.

Although I think these guys that get off on doing this deserve beatings, both of these cops were really unprepared to handle the situation.

  • I don't understand why these pig baiters open themselves up to later harassment by police. Sure it's funny to make them look like idiots on youtube for 8 minutes, but dealing with getting pulled over for every little thing for the next 2 years isn't worth it. Don't think for a second that these cops didn't find out who you are, where you live, and what kind of car you drive. Cops never forget a asswipe that challenges their authority.
