  • It would be nice if the "worlds problems" were as simple as this article suggests.

It is based on a few (pretty far fetched) assumptions:

    1. That the Core arrived by design (it evolved, was NOT created).

    2. That the Gap's economic woes/disconnection are the cause (as opposed to a symptom) of instability.

    3. That a US invasion would result in a transition from Gap to Core.

It is nice to think of the world as 'us' and 'them', but there is very little to connect the 19 'Gap' country candidates evaluated.

The only connection is a US-centric negative view of all 17 countries where there are poor foreign relations.

Some of these countries are INDEED as problematic as suggested, but to polarize the world into Core and Gap is just silly.

There are probably other holes in this article, an exercise for someone else.

  • hehe good points. But why you call that always war instead of peace missions and thats what it really is.
America is securing peace and freedom and not war. Al Qaeda is at war with us in Afghansistan and Iraq and elsewhere and we are only fighting back in self defence in our peace mission!

  • Although it may be silly to categorize between core and non-integrating core, but the practice of international relations and such in the academic world is constructed in a way that is much easier to see the bigger picture. Social scientists have always created paradigms.

and another such person asked "do you condone globalization?" thats a pretty silly question, because the force of globalization that cannot be stopped. the security of america depends on the free flow of information and goods across borders and cultures. we are biologically created to socialize and exchange information no matter what race/creed/culture we come from. globalization is inevitable.

  • great read. very interesting...I have much to add to this and some minor subtractions.like the current geo-political viability of South Africa in the throes of near anarchy. Some of the far East calculations are a bit skewed,IMO....... let me read it again and I'll toss some of my suggestions around for debate.

The USA has been dealing with globalisation since 1774 on or about. Anyone who has read the writings or history of say, John Adams or Thomas Jefferson knows that it was a huge deal back during the Washington through to Adams administrations with difficulties regarding France and England...sovereignty issues aside...

  • Rubbish.

Wars are fought because of the destructive human mind. Forget the semi-complicated argument that the author presents.
