If the Obama campaign had the power to go back in time and orchestrate a troubling episode in Mitt Romney’s past, it might look something like this: Romney’s Bain & Co. gets itself into deep debt when it spins off Bain Capital, Romney’s private equity company. Romney is asked to come back and save the company. He obliges. The parent company comes so close to bankruptcy — an embarrassing prospect for a consulting firm that is meant to tell othercompanies how to avoid doing things like go bankrupt — that it has to make a special deal with the banks to which it owes money, including one that had recently been taken over by the FDIC, the federal government’s agency that saves troubled banks.
Then it gets bad. Romney being Romney cleverly inserts a clause into the agreement that would give Bain executives first dibs on any cash left over if Bain goes under, ensuring they get big bonuses, even if all the rest of the employees are fired and the creditors are wiped out. This makes bankruptcy an undesirable option for the banks and the federal government. Meanwhile, the chairman of the FDIC happens to be Bill Seidman, who had served as finance chair for Romney’s father’s presidential campaign. Twisting arms and calling in favors, Romney negotiates a deal that saves Bain and his reputation, and screws the government in the process — forced bailout.

That's why he's the republican nominee. As a general rule, republicans are against anything that doesn't directly benefit their personal agenda. Most of them are knuckle draggers with the social conscience of a pack of wild animals.

@picklethepug Wasn't always that way. The Tea Party is working hard to chase away anyone with a brain or conscience though.

You're right. I say it all the time-- Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower would be considered "Socialist Commies" by today's republican standards.

Romney is such a sleaze...I thought W.Bush was the biggest monkey of them all ,but wait here comes Romney!!!
The biggest curse of any politician is that their job is never finished. They try things and we pay for them and if they don't succseed they don't pay...sorry,just being real here...I know that they still expect from Obama to solve the last 40 years in 4 years, but that is humanly impossible. Now Mitt the man will try to make a revolution???Yeah right. Another leach worrying about his own More..

That's what kills me about Romney. Conservatives have spent the past 3.5 years trying to make country forget about bush, then they put up an even bigger neocon corporate shill as their candidate. Its hilarious and terrifying at the same time.

Work this story better by answering these questions:
Did Romney benefit financially from the Bain bailout?
How much taxpayer dollars were involved?
Many Wall Streeters are crooks but who screwed taxpayers out of how much is the big question no politician is asking. And, who bought those politicians for how much is also not being discovered.

"It might go something like this..." Well shit, if a frog had longer legs it might not bump its ass every time it hopped. THe Dems must be getting pretty scared if they are coming up with "what if's" Here's one for ya, what if Obama hadn't have gotten us 5 trillion more in debt in the last three years? What if Obaba would have kept even 10% of what he promised? What if the Dem's come up with regulation on spending regarding medical doctors instead of a program they hadn't eve More..

Nope. It's a Seiko Windward, they start out at around $125 USD and go up to around $350 depending on metal and band. Nice try though!

Careful, you're getting off script. Bain is supposed to be a business-destroying monster seeking to profit off of others' misery.

On the other hand we can give $52 billion to GM and ask for only $6 billion of it to be repaid. I want a piece of that action.

But the difference is made up long term by the income taxes paid by the hundreds of thousands of people employed directly and indirectly by the auto industry. If the bailout didn't occur the government would not only lose a large portion of the tax base, they'd also gain a significant number of welfare recipients, which would make the net loss even greater.

@migs1955 Yet billions are given to oil companies in the form of subsidies and you have no problem with that. That makes you a hypocrite or just stupid.Which is it?

@echo4250 Or how about them billions given to that scam called alternative energy? You know, all those failed solar/wind companies that keep getting their billions from Obama and then closing shop. Did you notice the Solyndra exec run away from the cameras at the DNC? Wonder why? Of course you wouldn't have a problem with that would you, you party hack? As long as they contribute to Obama's campaign let the money flow. Talk about hypocrisy. Or maybe you're just stupid? Probably both.
