''Always Check the Barn''

A New York man retired. He wanted to use his retirement money wisely, so it would last, and decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal.

The property had a modest farmhouse and a large, concrete block barn. The farmhouse had been vacant for 15 years. The owner and his wife both had died, and there were no heirs. The property was being sold to pay back taxes. Several prospective buyers had looked at the property, but no one was interested. The large barn had steel doors that had been welded shut. Nobody wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in the barn, and the structure wasn't complimentary to the property anyway. Nobody made an offer on the place.

The New York retiree bought it at just over half of the property's worth, moved into the farmhouse, and set about to tear in to the barn. Curiosity was killing him. So, he and his wife bought a generator and a couple of grinders and cut through the welds. What was in the barn?

The barn.

The doors had been welded shut, but an angle grinder took care of that.

*For those of you who keep referencing the husband and wife run website Snopes.com and the germane debunk article that you all keep posting the same link to please note that like this article it provides no credible sources (bar the one they copied and pasted for their own 'original' article;) OR names of owner or owners, so their claim that this is fake has no more credibility than any claim that it is true.

The Judge

Man that show pisses me off. I've only seen it a few times but it's always the same.

Guy comes in with $10k item.

"Will you give me $10k for it?"
      "No we'll give you $100."
      "How about $120?"
long drawn out thinking and talking to the boss
      "ok"

    • @redditsucks pisses me off also. All fake American entertainment crap like Jersey Shore and shit like that. Slow grinding down the intellect of the American people by feeding them useless and worthless entertainment. Who would, in their right minds, sell something worth $10k for a fraction of the price. Doesn't make sense

  • According to Snopes...FALSE!

    http://www.snopes.com/photos/automobiles/barnfind.asp

The owner was an automobile dealer in the 1970s and 1980s who had built up his assemblage of cars over the years and stashed it in the barn (locking the structure up when it was full) and who simply hired a photographer recently to document his collection.

    • @UpYours

It did seem a little unlikely that they wouldn't check what was inside the barn before selling. A bunch of classic cars wouldn't have been likely but you could have expected some agricultural vehicles which aren't cheap.

Why do people have to make up stories?
      Pathetic really.

Yes, Snopes is run by a husband and wife. So what?

Snopes did post a source at the bottom of their article which you claim they didn't, so you're caught in another lie. LiveLeak should suspend you from posting anymore bs.

    • @Cujo1234 Oh THAT hilarious "source" which just serves to show what a worthless webshite that Mr and Mrs Snopes.com is, that source is basically a verbatim copy by the hubby and wife team using their incredible investigative skills of copying and pasting, with no owners name mentioned, just like my post, so who's the LIAR/S now?

I might have to suspend you from my featured article you little brat if you keep up your petulance.

  • I judge The Judge a liar.

He writes that Snopes.com provides no source for their statement this story is FALSE. Snopes does in fact provide a source which Da Judge would have seen if he had taken the time to scroll down to the bottom of the statement Snopes made regarding this.

The source is Tom Cotter who has written for Motor Trend and Sports Car Market. Here is a link: http://www.sportscarmarket.com/columns-blogs/news/2709-portuguese-barn-find-fact-or-fiction

#2. Just because you refuse to believe legitimate articles written by legitimate authors that were actually involved in finding this, doesn't mean you're any less full of shit by perpetuating a well known e-hoax.

    • @The Judge Well what I think seems to also coincide with what the majority of others that have half a brain's worth of sense to look into the facts themselves, which seems to leave us at the conclusion that what I think is the general consensus, no longer making it simply an opine of mine.

Pull your head from your egocentric ass and smell the roses; You're standing in the middle of a garden yet you're calling it a scrap yard.
