Vienna, OH - Police evacuated 230 homes Tuesday morning after two serious traffic accidents killed one person, leaked liquid propane, and ruptured a gas line.
The Ohio State Patrol reported earlier that a truck hit a bridge on Route 11 Northbound of the Niles-Vienna overpass just before 5 a.m.
The crash caused major debris and ruptured a six inch gas line.
Trumbull County Sheriff Tom Altiere tells CNN that a reverse 911 call went out to people in a one-mile area after the wreck occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m. He says the gas was shut off about three hours later and the evacuees were told it was safe to go back home.
A vehicle went left of center to avoid the previous accident's debris and hit a semi-tractor trailer. The semi-tractor trailer is leaking liquid propane, which is why authorities previously evacuated the area and have shut down Route 11 in both directions at this time.
The driver of the car was killed.
Traffic on Route 11 South and Northbound will be closed indefinitely from Route 80 to Route 82, about a 10 mile radius. The Niles-Vienna Bridge closed indefinitely as well.
