FONDA — Irate that he was denied welfare benefits, an Amsterdam man
allegedly told a social services employee he was going to "blow up the
place with a bomb" last week, the Montgomery County Sheriff's
Office said.The alleged incident occurred on May 4, when Daniel Hayes walked into the village's social services office and made the threat, according to authorities.

Hayes, 33, was later found at a relative's house in Amsterdam. He was taken into custody without incident.

No bomb or bomb making materials were found on Hayes or at his Locust Avenue home, the sheriff's office said.

Hayes
was charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony punishable by up
to seven years in prison. He was arraigned in Town of Mohawk Court and
sent to Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post
