Republican Jon Hubbard Declares Slavery "A Blessing"
Jon Hubbard, a Republican member of the Arkansas House of Representatives, has written a new book in which he says slavery was "a blessing" for African-Americans, among other questionable statements. Hubbard, a first term Republican from Jonesboro, Ark., makes a series of racially charged statements in the self-published book, including that African slaves had better lives under slavery than in Africa.

Hell, I'm a person of color and I acknowledge this. Does that mean I should grovel at the feet of "The Man"? No, just as he shouldn't feel guilty for what his ancestors committed (assuming they were even slave owners). Whats done is done, end of story.

I don't get it... What is the controversy here? I pretty much agree. I'm not saying that slavery was right or anything, just that the decedents of slaves are much better off than they would be otherwise. What's so wrong with that? It's common for generations of people to sacrifice so that their children, and their children's children can have a better life. Sure it was a blessing for the blacks brought over from Africa to be slaves. Look at the living conditions in Africa. Compare that to the ghettos of Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, St. Louis. The blacks have it made here in the states. Everything is given to them for free. Why would anyone question this guy's comments about this?

@dirtbiker201 At least in American ghettos they have food, color TV's and a warm place to go to the bathroom. That's something that can't be said for a most blacks in Africa - of course there, every place is a warm place to go to the bathroom. A lot of American blacks, the ones with ambition, have done very well by their own efforts, not to mention Affirmative Action and the EEOC.
