Mayans insist 2012 isn't the end of the world (Oct.2009)

"A Mayan elder has said that he is tired of being asked about the end of the world supposedly predicted by his culture.

Apolinario Chile Pixtun claimed that such theories of a 2012 apocalypse actually spring from Western folklore rather than Mayan tradition.

Chile Pixtun said: "I came back from England last year and, man, they had me fed up with this stuff."

  • My Grandfather is an expert on the Maya and has written several books. Apparently, when the Mayan calender ends the world is reborn, through a great flood that destroys all life and is then recreated by the Gods. So not the end of the world, only of all life. :)

  • Are you saying the Mayan 2012 Apocalypse Prediction is....BULLSHIT?
That was a good episode, I like the tourists asking the Mayan Princess about the Apocalypse and getting a blank stare.

  • All I have to say is... does History Channel still air it's Nostradamus Y2K predictions show?

How many predictions, portents of doom, and prophecies all presented as absolute truth have to end up 100% WRONG before we smarten up?

Dealing with realistic problems deserves much more of our concern. For example - genocide first, misinterpreted Mayan history a few thousand things later?
