It's standard operating procedure for any military ambush - doesn't matter what army.
Clack the clacker to set off the mines and then rain machine gun fire into the killing ground either from ahead or behind - i.e. along the line of the road.
You can also use secondary mines on either side and infantry to engage people escaping.
You generally stop when there is no return fire.

These guys were trainees (uniform) which means all of them are probably not more than about 22 years old. Really, what did they do to deserve death? They weren't even armed.

This is in the deep south phillipines. The southern island of phillipines is infested with muslim terrorists & the government is in the process of eliminating them all, with extreme prejudice. Still a safe place to travel though if you stick to the protected north. In fact, i'm going there in a few months to kick back on the tropical beach :)
