Better than most, overall.
Our American cops, especially in some places and in some ways, push the limits. A few are outright criminals. The unionization of cops is itself an enormous crime, in part because it protects bad cops; but also because it allows them to extort the taxpayers in a manner totally inconsistent with the proper ideals of public service.
But in the big picture they also do an immense service with what is generally a high degree of professionalism.
