When you have to hang improvised bullshit on a vehicle it means your out of ideas. The crew is going to have to try to see through all that crap to stay out of trouble. Reducing visibility further isn't going to help.

It's for protection against rpg's. If it wasn't needed it wouldn't be there.

@LOCO-MO I think this is the same path the Hummers took. It starts with armored doors because the designers didn't understand that military vehicles could get shot at. Then the plate kit, then the turret, then the roll over a chassises that carry the weight.
Now replace the hummer with an armored truck that over weight for crappy roads, thick glass with obstructed view from RPD grill.......
Maybe the designers didn't realize the enemy had them new-fangled RPGs.

They've just decided to adopt something that we use on our armoured vehicles. I really don't think they are clutching at straws as to what to put on these things.

Just think about it- if the rpg hits and explodes on the net the explosion is NOT on the armor and causes SIGNIFICANTLY less damage. You cant see through a fucking net 5 inches from your face? You have no clue what youre talking about. Its cheap and it saves lives.

@werdum12 You think Afghanistan will be the last war? Canada isn't even fighting there anymore and we are looking to acquire even more of these tin cans. Something else is coming.
