Homeowner Pulls Gun on Utility Worker

‎"Today we need a nation of minute men; citizens who are not only prepared to take up arms, but citizens who regard the preservation of freedom as a basic purpose of their daily life and who are willing to consciously work and sacrifice for that freedom. The cause of liberty, the cause of American, cannot succeed with any lesser effort." - President John F. Kennedy

  • "Yes, you may have your meter, ma'am. We will, however, be keeping our electricity."

    • @TigTx Try it. Report back. I've lived in ONE metro area where it MAY have been possible, but I doubt it...

They get service monopolies to induce them to build the infrastructure.

    • @Ally_Gator Some areas only have ONE provider. In that event, you petition the state for a analogue meter vs "smart meter". Several states have had such petitions and people have been sucessful at them. In some cases, the home owner was allowed to claim a monopoly clause (not sure to what laws) and was allowed service through same wire yet by third party provider. No idea if price was higher/lower.

    • @TigTx
If I was the utility I'd withhold power until they got their petition or agreed to the meter change. This is NOT what the 2nd Amendment was for - there was no pressing threat to this woman's life, and the original meter was the power company's - so there was no threat even to the woman's property.

She should have been arrested instead treated like some shining example of freedom. She gives sane gun owners a bad name...

  • Basically... she pointed a gun at a person trying to make it so they never have to go to her property ever again to read a meter.

  • Let's all grab our guns and scare everyone that doesn't agree with us. Brilliant.

    • @lethe SPoken like a true brit. Nothing to "scare" anyone here. Trespassing and legally protecting self/property for unauthorised intrusion. The law is on her side. FOCUS - the news clip was about legal RIGHTS - but that is a bit unusuall in your country I guess.

As a gun owner and outdoorsman... I do not agree with what she did. All smart meters do is add a wireless signal so they don't have to go onto your property ever again to read the meter. Theres a lot of misinformation regarding 'smart' meters like they track all your information... but none of which ever holds true. Uses the same wireless signal that your router uses.

    • @pootin ....the story was about a paranoid armed with a gun chasing away unarmed service worker.

    • @pootin So I guess then the electric company can exercise their right to protect their workers and stop proving services to that home. They still lose. Tbh, here that person would have been jailed for that.

    • @boossers ...the meter is the property of the power company so she has no legal rights over it.

  • fuck the meters, everyone here should be spending the money to generate your own power for your own needs. You could easily do it.

  • Those smart meters are BAD NEWS! They're radioactive and snoop on ordinary citizens in ways most people would never consent to. They should be outlawed.

  • Look if you don't want the electric company installing "updates", quit being a consumer of the electric company. Nobody is forcing you to use the electric and if you sign for a company's product there are terms the company has proper right to enforce.

  • Makes sense. Seems they have some fishy shit going on to get more money out of your pockets. No trespassing means no trespassing, you're playing with fire now that Americans are pretty much all armed nowadays.
