Fort Lee, N.J. residents have been ignoring crosswalks and red lights in favor of texting and playing with their phones, Chief Ripoli told ABC News. In just the last 3 months, 3 people have been killed and 23 people hurt. Last year, 74 pedestrians were hit. That's a lot in a city of only 35,000.

Dude on the internet believes propaganda story designed to usher in new fines allowing police to rake in more revenue while putting the public a little further under control by not mentioning that there is no law that allows them to hand out tickets for walking while texting.
In related news, people receive bullshit tickets.and.are too stupid to know they are not backed by law. Hundreds rush to give towns and counties hundreds and thousands more of their hard earned cash More..

@Forty6Two. They sure did. So far two of you in a row. Did you bother to check how many of them were hit because a driver didn't stop for the pedestrian in the crosswalk? Or how many were careless drivers not paying attention? Or how many were involved in hit and run? Or how many were just stupid and didn't look both ways before stepping into traffic? @Godinn I did see where and I took that "clip" from a news article where they were explaining that the news media made it appear that a "law" had been made, but that was not the truth at all. It was simply on jaywalking and someone took liberties in re-writing the story and it got national coverage.
You ask about in crosswalks etc, no I didnt see that in the article I read, it only covered the jaywalking parts. No, I didnt believe the "law" when I first heard it.
