  • China/Taiwan cannot claim separate status when it comes to these islands. As far as the Japanese WW2 surrender is concerned China was a single nation, so don't act like two different sovereign entities claiming rights is better than just Japan.
    Also, no where in the documents signed by the U.S., Japan, and China specified those islands as being given to China. There was vague reference to islands not enumerated but none the less the ones in question here were not enumerated thus the Japanese su More..

    • @darkboi I've looked into some of the details surrounding the claims on both sides, and while many aspects are vague, thus providing wiggle room for the politicians to argue about Japan is the rightful owner as in the later 1800s those islands were given to Japan in an agreement between them and what was then still China, though a very different China than we know today.     • @EmrysM Actually the UN recognizes it as belonging to Taiwan, but since Taiwan is part of "China" due to negotiations after the cultural revolution, no one really can be sure. Since taiwan is self governing. And yes Japan did purchase it from private owners, to prevent the chinese from taking over it. Honestly it should go to taiwan, but since its not possible it should go to japan, if it goes to China it'll be turned into a waste zone, after they polluted and raped the land.

  • Chinese propaganda. Japan owns the islands. China simply wants them, now that mineral wealth is found in the vicinity, and is taking advantage of a past disagreement that it had previously let stand.

    It rises to the level of outright war for neither side. But Japan would be within its rights to start destroying Chinese ships.

  • These islands were never supposed to be returned to China. That's the Chinese argument, but the Japanese regard these islands as part of Okinawa. They were only ever inhabited by Japanese people in the historical records that we have (and that only for a brief period at the end of the 19th and first half of the 20th centuries), and they were not ever handed over to China or intended to be handed over, which is why Japan still possesses them today.

  • Wrong, Taiwan (Republic of China) can defend itself and that is why it has remained freed since 1949. Furthermore, I would recognize the ROC (Taiwan) as the legitimate China who could present an argument for the islands.

    The islands belong to Japan and they will start drilling when Communist China implodes.
