And what you said shows the exact mentality that demands police carry firearms. Police officers have firearms to prevent death OR GRIEVOUS BODILY HARM!!! If you're suggesting that officer couldn't possibly have experienced death or grievous bodily harm by being kicked and stomped on by a frenzied mob then you need to come away from your computer more often. Having armed officers on stand by isn't much comfort when you're being brutally attacked.

there is a difference b/w arresting people who assaulted officers, and making a public statement that you are going to get revenge.
I think a police chief needs to be a leader and professional and making comments like that just makes the cops look like they are on the same level as the criminals.
