Hi all,
Just to let you now that tonight's hosted chat will be at 7pm EST in our chat room. The main topic is going to be that of assisted suicide and just in case some of you aren't familiar with the machinations of assisted suicide at the bottom you'll find links to three videos shot at the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland. The first two don't actually show the final moments of the patient but the last does so please be aware of what you are watching.
Naturally people can get a bit heated about topics such as these particularly when they cross religious or moral codes so I ask everyone try to keep a cool head where possible. The rules for the hosted chat are very simple.
1) When you enter chat please do NOT simply jump on your mic.
2) If you want to get on mic and make a point / ask a question then send a private message either to the host (me) or one of the mods in the room and you will be called to the mic when it is your turn.
Simple! I look forward to seeing you guys there and hearing your opinions on this and any other topic that might crop up.
Cheers
Hayden

@RogerTheShrubber They say is not moral to to assist suicide ... but is it moral to see a love person that is in great pain for many years !?

I recall as a young boy my father would constantly beg me to get the gun and shoot him. I was only 6 the first time I heard him begging us to take him into the woods and kill him. He was in a great deal of pain and deeply depressed. None of us were able to grant him his wish, though we hated having him suffer day after day. I loved him very much, but when he died, people at the funeral who were unaware of the situation asked my who I was not crying. I told them because he is no longer suffering. More..

@Steve15425 - Wow Steve, what a hard thing to go through especially at 6 years old. On that note, I witnessed my mother slit both wrist at a young age. She survived, but it has never been talked about after all these years. I guess I'll never know why, as she is very, very sick and I don't expect her to be here long, and I just don't think it's the time to bring it up or maybe I just really don't need/want to know.

I think you should ask her before it's too late. I lost my dad to cancer earlier this year, and there are so many things I wanted to say to him but couldn't.

@The_evil_one - Sorry about your dad. I just really don't see the point now. Somethings I guess are just best left alone and I have a feeling that this is one of them. Thanks :)

Won't be able to make it, but for the record, I am all for assisted suicide or euthanasia. If the situation warrants such drastic action, and providing there is some sort of certification method that validates the painful or terminal condition of the patient, then why not let them go with some dignity and peace of mind. If it is going to happen, it has to be controlled by the medical fraternity, and done humanely.

That was fun. About fifty people were there. At least half a dozen folks actively debated on mic. There were lots of typed comments from other people and Hayden occasionally presented their thoughts verbally. Only one person behaved in a disruptive manner and he was quickly kicked out of the room. There was some good Q&A afterwards with Hayden about Liveleak itself.

much better assisted than that people ressort to jumping in front of trains, srt self on fire etc...its a bloody mess for everybody around if it succeeds and the saddest place you can be if you survive as a quadriplegic.

@LoveLeak
This is not for people who just want to die. This is for people who are terminally ill, and are going to die anyway. This way they can get a comfortable and dignified death, instead of being in pain and suffering.
The kind of people who jump in front of trains, etc., are usually people who want to die, because of mental issues, and those are not the ones that can get assisted suicide.

If I lived in a state that would allow it, I probably would already be dead. I'm almost 40 and I got hurt at the age of 17 in the US Army. I'm a 100% service connected disabled Veteran. I broke my back in 11 places, have 10 ruptured disks, 8 bulging disks, arthritis throughout the spine, spinal canal stenosis, all disks have severe degenerative disk disease, I have partial paralysis in both hands and both legs, and those aren't the worst of it. There have been times (where I hurt so bad for mont More..

@bigEcod Is as much as I completely agree with the idea of "assisted suicide", I REFUSE to call it that except where others might not understand. Like everything in life, death is also personal. ONLY YOU can decide when you're at your limit, when you've had more than your share or when you just cannot go on. We are allowed any and all choices in life, but are denied the right to choose our own end. Life IS special, and it IS a gift, but it's one gift that doesn't have to be taken. I'm More..

Well, I assume the assistance wouldn't be given to people lightly, but only under the circumstances of terminal illness, and proper evaluation to make sure they aren't just making the division on one bad day.

I seen a video of a guy from US who went to Switzerland and drank some white liquid and died within a few minutes , he fell asleep and died peacefully with his favorite song in the background, and his wife by his side. If you have some horrible disease and your slowly dieing anyways, i dont see how people can have a problem with it.

@kanns01 It's just that we're so fucked up with laws, rights and bureaucratic BS. When we were a lot simpler, you'd just walk to the valley of death, dig a hole, get in it and wait until dead.

@Daveypoo Not quite. I'm not that dumb, as opposed to many here. Not only can I accept people have different opinions, but I prefer that. It makes for interesting conversations.
I would definitely assist the trolls that have nothing better to do than being here though, and lose every trolling argument they make... like Walmartyr for instance.
