June 7th 2012, Aden city, South Yemen. Central Security forces open fire on a peaceful protest by residents of the city, former capital of the independent republic of South Yemen. At least three protesters were killed, and many injured, some seriously. They are demanding a return to independence after failure of the unification experiment which began less than two decades ago. Unification has turned the south into the backward playground of the ruling elite. The Yemen revolution of 2011-2012 did not solve the issues after being hijacked by America to preserve the geopolitical status quo in their favour. Most of the government remains in place after the hijacking, and tensions between north and south have only increased. If a popular referendum were held, analysts point out that the south would almost certainly split away now.
The tensions can be traced in significant part back to the revolution when the US regime began interfering, for the sake of their own interests, in the internal Yemen processes of forming a revolutionary transitional council. The south was not appointed an equal representation in the transition, and this caused the leaders and personalities of the south to withdraw from the transition having previously supported the universal north-sourth revolution.
