Over the weekend of April 20-22nd, IMF protesters deployed a new tactic and hit a new target. The April 20 rush hour march went to the International Finance Corporation or IFC, a target never before hit by IMF protesters and outside the security cordon. Enough cops were following the protest to keep them out, but if the IFC had been the first target protesters might have gotten inside.
At about 8AM on April 21, protesters attached climbing ropes to the barricades outside the main IMF entry checkpoint and pulled the barricades into the street before the rope was cut. Other ropes forced incoming delegates to climb over physical obstacles prior to running a gauntlet of protesters for the second time of the weekend. At least a half hour later, two women were violently arrested, one sent to the hospital with injuries.
None of that deterred protesters from going back out at 10PM on April 21 for a round of storming delegate hotels. Protesters managed to get inside the Washington Circle Hotel and nearly got into the Mayflower as well, in spite of a lot of rough and physical behavior by the cops. Protesters also marched on the Hilton.
On April 22, protesters marched despite rain and calls for even more and even heavier rain, showing up for the 4th time in less than 48 hours ourside the IMF.
These protests were organized by the Anarchist Alliance DC Network and Occupy DC
