I claim to have the answer to what happens to our soul after death. Nothing happens, nothing at all, death is the end to everything that we call self. The Neuroscientist wasn't dead when he was having his dream.

@Pure_Adrenaline It's always been my view that after someone dies, its just like before life - nothing.

Never trust a guy that wears a bow tie. Kind of a fun story, though.
I just woke up from a nap and I had a dream that I was out partying with Romney. He was driving a Ford LTD from the 1980's but it was clean and new looking. He picked up some chick and we went out in the country and parked in a field somewhere. He was in the front seat making out with her and I was in the back seat. I had to get out to take a piss, and while I was standing by the back of the car, I was looking around for t More..

These are neat stories, that's about it. Your heart stopping doesn't mean you're dead. It means you're unconscious. It's like saying a person dies every night for 8 hours.

With all due respect I don't think your cerebral cortex shuts down every night, rendering your brain with zero alpha wave reading. This guy is the whose who of neuroscience, top of his field, I think I'll go with what he said.

@RustyNailer He's also in the .01% opinion of the who's who of neuroscience. It's nice to have something to believe in, but, losing consciousness is not the same as death.

@ST0N3PONY Most of society goes by cardiac arrest being death, but I do understand what you're saying.

@WingSP117 Yeah. Your heart is just a muscle. You can replace it, and you're still you. Your brain will live for about 5 minutes (under normal conditions), after your heart has stopped.

@ST0N3PONY His brain was eaten away by infection,.... not his heart.

Brain(subconcious) is smarter than we think and is capable of complex thinking.Hence when is it dying it tricks us into having these awesome hallucinations so we can die peacefully.
Once dead nothing more happens,no god or deity. Its like a T.V shutting off.
If death was so awaesome, an organism(us included) would not try so hard to cling to life. In fact we would all be lining to commit suicide.

I've also heard it said that your life flashing before your eyes is your brain trying to recall your memories/experiences to find something that would help you get out of your predicament and save your life.

Does anyone know of a case where an atheist had a near death experience and seen a deity of some sort?

@SonTerrific
edit:
There is a ton on you-tube, here's one I remember seeing before:

I'll look for you, but I know offhand of an atheist physician Dr. Donald Whitaker who felt a Deity while dieing. He had an acute hemorrhagic necrotic pancreatitis and had near death experience which changed his mind. In his own words:

@RustyNailer Awesome. I find these stories to be amazing and believable. I really hope it's true that there's more than just this life we live now. Thank you for posting the links. Take care my friend.

This all makes sense to me. I have distinct memories of at least one former lifetime. Difficult to explain, except it's nothing remarkable. Just ordinary memories.
It's purely subjective, impossible to prove objectively. But I am entirely sure that there is life after this life.
I do not pretend to explain this fact on the basis of any religion. I can't speak for "angels." Nor do I presume to offer up any fancy theories.
