Forgive me if this is a repost I haven't updated anything before. Sounds like the guy set up for the right field but ended up landing short for some reason. The fact that a different crew was brought in to get it out of there could mean that the guys are busted, but it could also mean that they did a good job and someone else was brought in to take care of it for them. I don't know. The commentator says that the two runways line up with a bay in between. I don't know what kind of gps scope they are looking at but if its an old military type then it may just be a bunch of lines on a green background or green lines on a black background they may not have a giant blue spot in between to designate the water. Also, if you have your zoom out too far then the two runways may look "connected".
I was thinking it was amazing he got in there but I'm thinking now maybe it was empty and wouldn't be so hard. They never mentioned having to unload it or of having to empty the tanks to lighten it up. And when they do take off they get out of there like a house a fire. He's up before the numbers and climbs out like the Fat Albert with rocket assist. (That's a Blue Angels ref for those who don't know.)

Fuck the media and the pussy that took the first video. These guys are defending your right to hold that camera, AND your right to STFU about what they do!
Karma is a big bitch and you just signed up for a shitload.
To the soldiers on the C17...thank you for the great job you do 24/7!! We salute you!

@daddio195666 Soldiers? In the Air Force? Uh...I'm as patriotic as the next guy but you just make us look like fools when you make elementary mistakes like calling Airmen Soldiers.

Whatever happened up there I hope it was worth it because that was an epic fuck up right there.
No excuses. Pilot is toast, probably the co pilot and navigator too.
Goodbye careers.

@ValleyBlacksmith ....nope, pilot is a hero - navigator goes to the bottom of the list for a while.

Landing that monstrosity like a Fieseler Storch on a tennis court is certainly a commendable demonstration of flying prowess but the fact remains, this was an epic fuck up. Never should have happened to begin with.

More than enough of runway, just imagine if they had used Jato tubes?
Hop skip and a rollem.

Boo fucking hoo, by the tone of those news reporters they would have loved to see the pilot lose his job, stripped from his liberty and nailed to the cross.

The C17 is a great aircraft - it can land on a dime and take off on the same coin. Same with the C130.

Wasn't this the type of plane Jimmy Carter was suggesting strapping booster rockets on so it could land and take off in a football stadium to rescue the Iranian hostages in the late 70's

Pushing aside the reasons why it landed there-shows its an awesome aircraft for it to land *and* take off from such a tiny runway.

This happens fairly frequently, I've done it myself back when paper maps were popular for cross country navigation. What will happen to this crew? Aside from the CO asking WTF, nothing would be my guess. Aircraft is not broken, nobody hurt, no big deal.

That jet is designed for small airstrips, saw one at an airshow and they can fly extremely slow.

Why did they burn all that expensive fuel off instead of pumping it out?
