Emergency Landing of the Century
A Boeing 767 from Newark, New Jersey, carrying 230 passengers made an emergency landing in Warsaw after its landing gear failed to open. Leszek Chorzewski, the spokesman for LOT, the Polish airline that operated the flight, said none of the passengers was injured. The plane landed on its belly without its wheels. Passengers could be seen fleeing the plane.

That is properly good LL material! Even if it is old, it should be schooling for those that post junk like "Cinnamon Challenges" here....agree?

On the upside, they didn't have to worry about brakes.
Awesome landing, btw.

No screaming, not hysterics, appropriate applause for the flight crew immediately upon stopping. Ambulances went back to the barn empty.
The Polish are a civilized people.

@EmrysM
That was a ditching more than a landing... A good landing is one you walk away from.

@Valerie2007 Well I guess technically they floated and flew away from it... But none the less it was a good landing.

@Valerie2007
"Ditching" on water I would have to argue was far greater of an accomplishment than belly landing on a runway. Im not trying to take anything away from these pilots at all,but choppy water I would think presents a far greater risk.

@gonehuntin How choppy is the Hudson? Not very.
But Sully did it without engine power. Props there.

For those that are interested in a little more background info...
This belly-up landing took place on 11/01/2011 at the Frederic Chopin International Airport (WAW), in Warsaw, Poland.
The eleven member flight crew was headed up Captain Tadeusz Wrona and Co-Pilot Jerzy Szwarts.
There was a failure of the hydraulic system which raises and lowers the three landing gear assemblies.

Superb landing by the P.P. ( Polish Pilot ). I wonder why the turned off the runway landing lights, Fuel leakage ignition? Great job though, guy sounded cool as a cucumber.
