I do volunteer work for the Salvation Army. Why the SA? Because they "do the most good". I know they are a christian org, but their mission is not to spread "the word", it is to do good in this world. If they feel the need to do that in the name of "God", that's fine by me. They do all they do from mostly the red kettle campaign at Christmas time, so please, drop some ching in them things. You would be surprised at the "stuff" that's dropped in them, then sold and the cash used for things like this.
Personally, I do it to give something back to the community.
Usually, I just do Emergency Disaster Services, that means they fly me or I drive to a disaster and help pick up the piece's. But for the last 4 or 5 years my buddy RD and I have been chartering a bus, traveling around the Catskills and picking up a bunch of kids for a week at camp. It became a hit in a short time and 2 years ago, we added a second route. This is the first route this year and in August we will do the second one. We also go back with the bus pick them up at camp and return them to their guardians, lots of times against our better judgement. We make a "road trip party" out of it....good times!
