May 6 - A car bomb, detonated in Bayaa, a district in southern Baghdad kills at least 30 people and injures many more.

The Bayaa district has been targeted several times by car bombs blamed on Sunni Islamist al Qaeda.

U.S. and Iraqi forces launched a major security crackdown in Baghdad nearly three months ago. The offensive has reduced sectarian death squad killings, but car bombs still plague the city.
