GTV6 tribute film

YO liveleak dudes..got my alfa gtv6 on the road.. bought it off a dude that had TOO many cars so it hasn't run for over 5 years...well i recommisioned it ..changed everything rubbery, a new rad, fuel lines and filter etc .i serviced it myself and got it tuned/timing done etc ect..

not got time to tell you all the jobs i have done, but i spent alot of time on it, and some money to!.. I think its cool looking, a bit oddball but the wheels set it off and are very unique on this model.. its not mint and still has jobs that need doing but its reliable and quick for its age..0-60 is about 8 seconds ...it really needs a good long run to blow out the crap and for the valves to bed in again.... just thought i would share with you what floats my boat anyway...

Sooo I made a movie to hear what it sounded like, and well the mic on the camera is a bit crap so i am a bit disappointed that it didnt sound as good as i know it does in real life.. but i hope you appreciate this 80s classic that in the uk has only 30 left of this exact model...and most are off the road....or bits of dust...

take it easy live leakers...Ed................and no it hasnt died yet...(before you say)

  • Good to see you or at least your shadow, again. You going to bring that baby with you on your next trip to the states? If you do, stop by and I'll show you how to drive on the CORRECT side of the road. ;)

    Cheers, mate.

  • beauty!!

    but why all those stickers?

I remember it was a nice car to drive, but gearbox was bad, like all Alfa's back then.
Not very fast. A Citroen BX 19 TRS was faster.

Don't worry about the smoke, quite normal, even when (almost) new.

    • @v12 yer your right gearbox is poor really needs to be tightened up..but they were quick for the year i cant see a 105bhp bx beating mine tbh, maybe he had the sprint?...and the stickers are tribute retro racing look i guess. its not mint and i wont pretend it is.

  • Great car mate.
I used to own a 156 2.5 v6 24v. With red leather interior. Loved that car to bits. Unfortunately I had major electrical issues with her. Wiring loom got burnt out in the end. Great rev happy engine though. think 0-60 was 6.9 secs
    Great vid

  • Didn't Clarkson just do something with one of these? Like drove it all over the place or something. It was an Alfa, but can't remember the model and certainly not as pretty as your one! (besides, any car with Clarkson in ain't gonna be pretty LoL)

  • Nice looking car.

I'm not very familiar with this model, or the engine.

GTV-6 - can you tell me more about it?

I'm driving a MazdaSpeed3 (MPS) w/a 4cyl. turbo and a few mods. Not a comparable car, but I can understand your need for speed and looks. Hopefully once you get the engine tuned up your 8s 0-60 will improve greatly.

    • @mi6 well.. its a 2.5v6 160bhp..its pretty quick for its day and it handles perfectly as the gearbox is in the rear and rear wheel drive.. its got more efficient inboard discs and they rust alot.. hence why there are not many around... you have to be careful on modding them as syncro is weak and gearbox very sloppy.. so i doubt ill make it very quick...but as a hatch in 1983 not many were quicker.

Nice - Thanks for the run down.

      2.5L V6 - must be pretty peppy.

      I like it. Enjoy.

  • Dude, that's a great car. My mates dad had one back in 1986,it had a small piece of glass in the middle of the hood so you could see the motor,it was silver with a saddle interior,Ansa exaust. That thing sounded awesome when the rpm's were high and you let off the throttle, inboard rear brakes, just a fun car to drive, good luck with her,it's looking good,cheers....

  • Lovely design, looks great and sounds good too.
The problem was in the quality control. A friend had a white GTV6 which he bought from Hexagon Alfa. He took it to the car wash after purchase and the paint on one side of the car literally slid off. Large areas of bare metal and primer. I had an alfasud from the same era, and had to wreck a six year old car because it was in danger of collapsing around the subframe due to rust.

    • @whogoesthere i heard that the suds were rusting before they got sold... and yes the paint and everything is very thin.. the bonnet feels lighter than fibreglass.. mines been oiled and i stuck 5 litres more in it

    • @edkemper
I think if you look after it and keep it dry you should have a good car. Its stayed looking great this long so hopefully it'll be a keeper. You were right about the suds. The story was they bought poor quality steel from east germany which rusted dreadfully. To make it worse the whole project was a govt effort to invigorate the south of italy (industry is all in the north). It didn't work, dreadful quality control and a workforce that was there because they had to be. The sud and the More..
