4 arrested at White House protest of Colombia free trade deal

On the 11th of July, 4 people were arrested in front of the White House during a protest of the US/Colombia Free Trade Agreement that Obama may soon introduce to Congress. They stayed put after perhaps 100 people crossed from Lafayette Park to deliver 51 cardboard coffins to the street in front of the White House

The 51 coffins symbolize the 51 trade unionists murdered by right-wing paramilitaries and other hired guns last year. An additional 17 have died this year-yet Obama wants to betray his campaign promises to block the Colombia as well as the South Korean trade agreements. Long have the GOP and US Chamber of Commerce sought these deals, long have indigenous people in Colombia and millions of others in both countries sought to stop them.

Two speakers at the rally that preceded the civil disobediance warned that passage of the so-called free trade agreement would mean multinational corporations would gain the "right" to push indigenous people and Afro-Colombians off theirnland to make way for palm oil plantations and other developments favored by foreign multinationals and investors.

    • @ogrishdeath If you don't support bailing out Goldman-Sachs and AIG with taxpayer funds, why do you support bailing out investment banks and factory farms in Central America with US money and US guns? "Main Street, not Wall Street" is good enough for Colombia if it is good enough for the US!

Sure as HELL, indigenous people have the right to defend their lands, just as some of my own Native American ancestors no doubt had to. The "Indian Wars" are NOT over, and Colombia is o More..

    • @vmflager You are right about NAFTA, but so wrong about undocumented migrants of Native American descent. NAFTA forced people to come here by destroying their jobs and their villages at home. How would YOU like to be forced to move 1,500 miles to a place where they don't even speak your language because a corporate free trade deal killed you town?

As for the Democraps, they may as well be a second GOP. Yet again Obama is "Fentying out" in DC terms, by doing the opposite of what he pro More..

    • @dcdirectactionnews bullshit! By whatever means we fought for and took this country. And no matter how much u dislike it it will stay ours. We made laws to keep illegals out and when u enter illegally u are a crimnal. That is fact like it or not. So scream ur tales of a 200yo injustice but it won't change our laws

    • @vmflager You just admitted to being a conqueror. This is the attitude the Nazis had when they steamrolled into Europe. Might does not make right, and unjust force breeds more force to overthrow it, as in fact happened in WWII.

The day of Reconquista may be sooner than you think-when the Nazis refused to change their laws, others stepped up to the plate and changed them anyway! When the Nazis tried to resist they were thrown down from the heights of power and hunted all over the world like the More..
