@menderman 53% is fed. income tax. Fed income tax does not pay for NYC city services. People can always skew numbers for their own agenda. Even the unemployment is jacked up. It should be double the "official" number.

I don't know what the NYC taxes pay for, but as far as the 53% deal goes, most states, counties, cities get a percentage of their revenue from the federal government. The feds take a bunch and trickle it down back to us through dozens of government agencies that each take a cut.
