Fire Department responds to a report of an occupied building about to collapse.

Raw video,Philadelphia,Sept 13/08:Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon. An unstable building due to construction next door, a broken gas line and then the collapse, with the fire department on the scene.

FISHTOWN,September 13, 2008, Fire officials were on the scene of an apartment that collapsed Saturday afternoon.

The front of the 3-story apartment collapsed at around noon at the 1700 block of Frankford Avenue in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia.

Authorities tell Action News, four of the units were occupied and more than half a dozen residents are displaced.

A construction company was demolishing the unoccupied part of the apartment building, however, the occupied section starting crumbling, too.

Construction worker threw rocks at Marvin Schnoll’s window to tell him the building was coming down.

He and Alba Rivera tried to get out the door, but it did not open. They escaped via the second floor window.

They were able to save their cats from the collapsing building.

For nearly 8 hours, the couple watched as crews demolished the rest of building.
