There could be a link between voting for Barack Obama and being depressed.

“It seems so, judging from a study by two economics professors, newly published in Science magazine. The academics — Andrew J. Oswald, of the University of Warwick in Britain, and Stephen Wu, of Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. — examined piles of data, tossed them into a research Cuisinart and came up with a guide to American happiness, ranked by state. On the smiley scale, New York landed on the bottom,” Clyde Haberman of the New York Times reported.

Obama carried all 10 of the glummest states on the list.

The lowest ranking red state was Missouri — which was happier than 13 blue states. John McCain barely picked up Missouri.

Seven of the top 10 happiest states were carrie by McCain. And really, Hawaii had no choice, right?

Is there a link? Well, it is a study and studies usually can find what the studier wants to find.

But instead of Hope and Change, a more accurate description might be Gloom and Despair, which come to think of it is what we are getting.

Maybe if they had a gun or a religion to cling to, the people in these blue states would not be so sad.
